The REFRESHED Common Induction Standards (CIS) form the foundation of learning and create a pathway for your employees through their first twelve weeks and their career.

The Care Quality Commission promotes the Skills for Care route of completing eight core areas of development in a social care employees Induction.

The standards now map across to the mandatory units of the new Health and Social Care Diploma to ensure there is consistency of approach for the workforce. There are now eight standards, however they will not take any longer to complete and the core elements are still retained.

      Standard 1 Role of the health and social care worker

      Standard 2 Personal development

      Standard 3 Communicate effectively

      Standard 4 Equality and Inclusion

      Standard 5 Principles for implementing duty of care

      Standard 6 Principles of safeguarding in health and social care

      Standard 7 Person centred support

      Standard 8 Health and safety in an adult social care setting

 

  • There are  workbooks help both the manager and the inductee to follow a chronological route supporting the above standards. Induction’s help with  gaining valuable knowledge and experience that can add to an Adult Care NVQ level later on. 
  • The log book can purchased for a fee from Skills for Care or can be downloaded free of charge, along with the supportive literature

These are: the standards with a glossary which outlines how they link to GSCC codes of practice; a progress log; a guide for those responsible for workers in an induction period; a guide for new workers; and a certificate for managers to sign to confirm that standards have been met.

SCILS have a freely available worker learning CPD recording process in their downloadable books - they are free to access. There are some excellent handouts and guidance on Induction’s as well as many other important areas of key development.

Skills for Care

    Remember, your organisation must have completed and updated the NMDS-SC (National Minimum Data Set for Social Care) with Skills for Care and updated your establishment details since 1st April 09 to access the funding associated with Training Strategy Implementation (TSI) funded Induction’s and NVQ’s and Assessor Units. There is also a requirement to include the workforce data this year.
