Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this workshop for?

It is for anyone who works with adults or children and needs to have a basic understanding of the issues involved in safeguarding them from abuse.  This will include those working in health, those working in residential or day care settings (qualified or non-qualified), those working in the community (e.g. care assistants, volunteers, escorts, drivers etc). The workshop is open to people working in statutory, voluntary, independent and private organisations.   With regard to staff from Wiltshire Council, managers from the Learning Disabilities Provider Services, managers from the Reablement Service, Housing staff and Safer Communities staff can apply.

How should I apply?

Please apply on the attached form and return it to Barbara Mercieca (the address at the bottom of the application form). People in the voluntary, independent and private sector should apply via the above electronic application

How many places can I book?

We can train up to 28 people in each workshop. There are places for 14 learners covering services for adults and 14 places for services for children.  Places are limited as we try to offer a wide audience the chance to attend.  If more than one person is applying from your service please let us know, in order of priority, who you most want to attend. This is because we cannot always offer everyone a place.

How do I know I have a place?

If successful you will hear from us within 10 days of the closing date.  In order to maintain a full attendance on the course, please confirm your attendance when we offer you a place. Please note; you should not turn up to a workshop without confirmation of your place.  If you are not offered a place, you are welcome to re-apply for a workshop on another date.

What will it cost me?

This course is free of charge as the Wiltshire Care Sector Partnership is making a contribution towards the cost of these sessions.

If you are not able to attend and you do not inform us your line manager will be informed and your service may be charged Ł40 for the cost of the wasted place.

I need to cancel, what should I do?

If you cannot attend please contact:

Course Administrator:  Barbara Mercieca,

Telephone:   01225 713920 or

E-mail:          barbara.mercieca@wiltshire.gov.uk

We need to know at least a week before the workshop if you need to cancel. If it is an emergency let us know as soon as possible. We can then offer your valuable place to another applicant.

If you are not able to attend and you do not inform us your line manager will be informed and your service may be charged Ł40 for the cost of the wasted place.
