Feeling confident in regard to updating within Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards?
- Wiltshire Council is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of people living in Wiltshire and for promoting the safeguarding agenda.
- All agencies which provide a service to vulnerable adults in Swindon and Wiltshire have a duty to report any allegations or suspicions that a vulnerable adult is being abused in accordance with the Policy and Procedures for Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults in Swindon and Wiltshire.
- This places an individual responsibility on all members of staff to report abuse as well as an organisational responsibility on your agency to ensure that all staff receives support and training in Adult Protection issues.
To increase awareness the following is available to you:
Training within Wiltshire
- Kwango e-learning packages on Safeguarding Adults, on the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS):
- They can be of use while people are waiting for a training place or for refreshing knowledge after attending training. FREE

- Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Awareness:
- This one-day workshop is available for people working in the independent and voluntary sector, delivered by trainers from Wiltshire Council. The training is FREE and you can apply for a place on-line online here
- Safeguarding Adults Information Talks
- Programme Leads, Maggie Hall and Thelma Claydon, are available to speak with staff, volunteers and trustees to raise the Keeping People Safe agenda. Looks at contemporary practise and asks organisations to reflect on their own policy and procedures in place, including safer recruitment practises. FREE

- The website has information on the national Common Induction Standard 5 (Recognise and respond to abuse and neglect) and has Individual Learning Sessions on the Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding Adults Legislation, Recognising and Responding to Abuse etc.

- The Safeguarding Adults Good Practice Project: This project is funded by Comic Relief and is managed jointly by Action on Elder Abuse (AEA) and the Practitioners Alliance for Vulnerable Adults (PAVA). ‘The project is aimed at the wider community of practitioners and others with a stake in Safeguarding adults from a variety of angles. The project aims to provide practical methods of identifying and disseminating good practice from around the country. - The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006) sets out a new scheme for registering ALL staff and volunteers who work with children or vulnerable adults. The scheme Vetting and Barring will be managed by Independent Safeguarding Authority http://www.isa-gov.org.uk
